Alpha's Surprise Bride: BBW Werebear Fated Mate Romance Page 3

That was quite a list of important responsibilities. I had to think things through, but I couldn’t decide anything being next to him. It was way too easy to get sidetracked when Nathan’s eyes were blazing into mine.

“That’s a lot of work,” I thought out loud. “I’m sorry I have to ask this, but how much is the salary?”

“Let’s put it this way – I can make you happy in ways you can’t even imagine,” he said with a clever smile on his beautiful face.

His response was so ambiguous that I didn’t quite understand whether he was talking about work or his possible real intentions with me.

Or at least the intentions I wished he had with me!

“Can I ask you something, off the record?” I inquired quietly.

  “Sure,” he replied, frowning slightly.

  “Why me?”

He raised his hand to his chin and started rubbing it with the back of his index finger. His eyes were fixed on my lips.

I couldn’t help but watch. I wanted to lick his chin from the tip of his jaw to his ear. I blushed at the thought. Moments went by and he was still thinking of what to say to me.

  “I like you,” he said.

I inhaled sharply. Three little words I was not expecting.

“Plus, I really think my company would benefit from having you on board,” he added after a few seconds. “I would benefit from having you next to me. I’m an excellent judge of character, you see.”

I couldn’t say anything; I was so dumbfounded. I felt the sexual tension between us escalate even though we still didn’t know much about each other.

“I… I have to think about it,” I stuttered and stood up to leave, my pasta still mostly untouched.

That was alright as my appetite had suddenly vanished. Food was the absolute last thing on my mind with all the information Nathan had thrown at me.

“That’s fair, but I need to know your decision by tomorrow. How about dinner tomorrow night?” he said, clearly not wanting to let me go without an answer.

It was an invitation I couldn’t possibly resist.

  “Yes,” I nodded, “tomorrow.”

He walked me out of the restaurant in silence, but he looked at me like no man before. For some reason, I felt a deep need to take care of him. He gave me a vibe that said that he needed me, and not just as his personal assistant. I knew I would say yes to his offer, but I still wanted to have some time to think, somewhere where I wouldn’t be immediately mesmerized by his presence.

He gently grabbed my wrist and pulled me close to him so we were chest to chest. He inhaled my scent once again, this time closing his beautiful brown eyes. When he opened them, there was a golden glow to them. He gave me a sphinxlike smile and kissed me lightly on my lips, sending a shock of electricity coursing through my body.

“Tomorrow,” he said quietly and let me go.

It felt like I was burning up from head to toe but was unable to move or say anything. There was so much promise in one little word, and I couldn’t wait to see him again.

Something told me our next meeting might be even more exciting than this one.

The interview slash date was amazing.

I kept replaying it in my head. It was just perfect – business mixed with pleasure. I hoped he didn’t have a policy about not dating his employees. In that case I would have to say no to his job offer.

It took me the whole evening to analyze what had happened. The more I thought about him, the more aroused I got.

I touched my neck where he had inhaled my scent. I touched my cheek where he had kissed me and trailed my lips with a finger where his taste still lingered from our goodbye. My hands kept moving all over my body the more I thought about him. His brown eyes with a golden sheen, his beautiful angular face with his jaw effortlessly tense, his sexy half-smile with those perfect teeth, his thick dark hair slightly tousled, and of course his beautiful, muscular body… Oh!

I finally found my release after hours of thinking about him.

I looked at myself in the mirror the next morning, and I hadn’t seen a face that happy for a long time. My night had ended with my head filled with thoughts of Nathan, and I couldn’t have been more excited about seeing him again that evening.

I couldn’t find anything date-worthy in my closet so I went shopping. After hours of looking and searching I found a black dress that hugged my curves just right. It showed off my best assets.

So what if I overspent a little.

It took me the other half of the day to prepare for the date. I shaved everything that needed shaving, put on my new sexy lingerie with a pushup bra that made my boobs look great and gave me the perfect hourglass figure. I looked at myself in the mirror and was happy with the result.

A girl could get lucky, right?

I knew it wasn’t exactly the best idea to get involved with a prospective employer, and I definitely needed the job, but I found myself wanting him more and more. I would have to find a balance to avoid my personal feelings affecting my work.

Finally, after doing my hair and make-up, I slipped on my new dress. I couldn’t even remember the last time I looked that hot.

I was ready and waiting by 7 p.m. Then it suddenly occurred to me that he never said what time or where we would meet. He probably should have called by now to specify the details.

  Maybe he changed his mind?

I picked up my phone to check if there were any missed calls or texts, but there was nothing. I paced nervously back and forth until I stopped by the window and noticed a big black town car in my parking lot. I shook my head – that couldn’t be him, he didn’t even know where I lived.

I decided to call him. I dialed his number and waited for the connection, but he never answered.

I still stood by the window and noticed some movement downstairs from the corner of my eye. I moved my curtains aside and saw a man coming out of the town car. He looked up, straight at me, and my first instinct was to hide under the intensity of his gaze.

It was Nathan. He put his hands in the pockets of his pants and nodded slightly with a smile on his face. I raised my hand and gave him a little wave. I turned quickly, grabbed my purse, and rushed downstairs.

How does he know where I live?

That was the last thought before I saw him again on the street.

I stood by the door, hesitating a bit. He came closer and checked me out from head to toe.

“Perfection,” he said after an appreciative pause.

He came to me and kissed me on my cheeks again. He was so polished and polite. He made me feel like a real lady. I flushed and hugged my purse to hide my glee.

“Shall we go? I have a reservation,” he said after a heartbeat.

  “Sure,” I replied quietly.

I was so happy to see him again, and it was very hard to hide my emotions. He smiled, looking at me as if he could read my thoughts. He put his hand on the small of my back and escorted me to the car.

Of course he has a chauffeur, he’s a billionaire!

The beginning of our ride was awkwardly quiet. I could tell he was nervous, too. He offered me champagne and I accepted just to steady my nerves a bit. It wasn’t exactly the best decision, since the last time I ate something was at breakfast.

“How are you feeling,” he asked, sipping his drink from a low glass.

  “I’m fine, thanks.”

“You seem so quiet,” he commented, turning to face me.

“I’m just a bit shocked that you know where I live.”

I couldn’t hide my thoughts. Every time he asked a question, the answer just seemed to tumble out.

“Let me ask you something. Do you believe in fairy tales?”

What does that have to do with anything?

I was taken aback a little but decided to find out where he was going with this.

“Yes, sure, some more than others,” I replied.

“I’m talking about the ones with princes
and princesses.”

“Okay, yes, I do believe in them,” I said after thinking for a second.

He confused me even more and I decided to play along. Didn’t every girl believe in princes, just a little bit?

“So, in all those stories, somehow the prince always finds his princess, no matter the weather, the werewolves or lack of Internet, right?”

He was so animated and cute and made me giggle like a little girl. I composed myself and squared my shoulders to show him that I took him seriously. Still, I couldn’t hide my smile.

  “Right,” I answered his question.

“What I’m saying is, there are ways to find a person or find out where he or she lives if you put your mind to it. It’s really not that hard, having the Internet and all.”

By then, he was smiling too. He must have heard himself talking, trying to make me believe that he was a prince and I was a princess.

“So where are we having dinner,” I asked, just to move past that awkward smiling at each other.

“Since you look so nice, I’d like to take you somewhere very special,” he answered with a secretive smile on his face.

  “What’s it called?”

He laughed out loud, but catching my surprised expression, stopped immediately. He leaned in close to my ear and whispered.

  “Home.”

He kissed my neck right below my ear before inhaling again, as if he couldn’t get enough of my scent. A low grunt emerged from his throat as he pulled away. The moment was so hot that I subconsciously started fanning myself. He smiled his sexy, lazy smile and looked out the window. I lost all track of time, stuck in an enclosed space with this dangerously sexy man, my mind racing at the thought of him taking me to his place.

  Would we be alone there?

  I didn’t even notice we’d arrived.

“We’re here,” he declared, pulling me out of my ruminations.

  “Oh.”

We were just outside the city of Denver, close to the mountains. The house was beautiful with a modern finish and three stories. The sun was setting and the mixture of yellow and orange played on the huge windows of the house.

“I’ll have my driver on standby. If you wish to leave, just let me know.”

His expression was serious and he was waiting for an answer. I nodded.

Nathan got out of the car, walked around it and opened my door.

“This is just breathtaking,” I remarked, unable to hide my amazement.

This must be what paradise looks like.

“Yeah, wait ‘til you see the view,” he said, taking my hand in his.

  This isn’t the view?!

His touch was so soft and strong at the same time. I was still looking around to take it all in when he tugged me gently. I followed him into the house.

“Would you like a grand tour or shall we eat first?”

“Definitely the tour,” I replied with a big smile on my face.

Why was I so happy? It wasn’t like he had invited me to live there with him. It was just dinner!

Pull yourself together, woman, and don’t get your hopes up!

He tugged my hand as we crossed the hall. He had a couple of paintings on either side, evening the hallway out.

  “Did you decorate yourself?”

“Some parts of the house, yes. That’s the kitchen, but we’ll come back here later,” he explained, pointing to the left.

I only got a glimpse of the enormous space with high-tech appliances, a kitchen island and a family table fit for at least ten people.

  “This is the living area.”

He guided me to a huge room, almost like a ballroom, which stretched up through all three floors.

“You could organize a ball here,” I thought out loud, wondering.

“I could,” he said, thinking for a moment, “but it would be a huge invasion of my privacy,” he concluded, winking and smiling.

Of course it would be. I kept forgetting that he was a billionaire and the press was always interested in him.

His living area had a huge couch in the middle of it, and a mega-size TV to match. A couple of end tables here and there with fresh flowers on them completed the room. The windows were floor to ceiling with no curtains or drapes to cover the spectacular view.

“Do you like living here?” I asked, curious.

“Can’t really complain. I like the location,” he answered casually.

He took my hand again and led me up the stairs. The second floor was decorated a bit more romantically. I could tell that he couldn’t have had much to do with decorating this part of the house. It had a feminine touch to it – an interior decorator, maybe?

“Here are three guest rooms,” he said with a playful smile. “Not that I have many guests, but the rooms came with the house, and I like to be prepared.”

“And upstairs is the master bedroom with a view to die for,” he smiled, taking my hand and leading the way.

As soon as he opened the door to his bedroom, I forgot how to breathe. He wasn’t underestimating – it really did have a view to die for. On the left you could see a panoramic view of Denver and on the right were the beautiful snowcapped mountains.

Out of the four walls of the room, two were made of glass from floor to ceiling. It seemed like huge windows were the theme of the house.

I couldn’t even enjoy the interior of the room. I was so mesmerized by the view that I went straight to one of the windows and leaned on it with my hands.

  “Wow,” I whispered to myself.

I didn’t notice that Nathan had followed me to the window. It really was the view.

  “I know,” he said, smiling.

“I might never leave,” I joked.

“I don’t mind having you here,” he replied.

Things were moving way too fast. I still barely knew him, but I couldn’t resist his presence. It was like an inner pull that guided me towards him. I couldn’t get enough of his smell – it was fresh, mixed with something strong and deep. My head was spinning.

He moved behind me and snaked his arm around my belly, moving my hair to one side with his other hand and letting it slide down my shoulder. I cocked my head to the right, giving him easier access.

My hands were still on the window to steady myself. He kissed my neck from my ear to my shoulder and then stopped to inhale my scent once again. I didn’t mind, not at all. I was more than ready to be with this man. I got goose bumps all over my body, his touch making me tremble.

“Ahem…” a cough came from behind us.

Nathan turned, his hands still on me, and nodded. I lowered my hands off the glass and felt a blush creeping up on my cheeks. I had thought that we were alone in the house, but clearly I was wrong. He gently turned me around to face him and kissed me lightly on my lips.

“We can come back here later, should you want to,” he said like a true gentleman. “But right now, our dinner is being served.”

“Oh… okay,” I replied with a stab of disappointment in my voice.

He looked at me as if he could read my mind, shook his head and smiled. He took my hand once again and led me downstairs to the kitchen. I had been right before, the kitchen area was enormous. A lot more than one man needed.

“Thank you, Paulo,” he said to the man leaving the kitchen.

Well, of course he has a private chef!

“Does he cook for you every day?”

I tried to sound casual, but the truth was, I had some reservations about men with too many staff members.

“No,” he said, laughing. “He only comes on special occasions. I can cook my own food.”

“Who else is in the house?” I asked, trying to avoid any other awkward situations like the one in his bedroom.

Why I went in there was another matter entirely, of course.

“Right now, it’s just you and me,” he said. “Oh, and the driver waiting in the car.”

“So you live alone,” I stated, although I had intended to form it more as
a question.

“My housekeeper comes here every other weekday, but yeah, I live alone,” he looked around the kitchen, appreciating what he had.

That answered my question about his personal life.

So I guess no wife and kids. Thank god for that.

“Paulo cooks the best salmon I’ve ever tasted so that’s what we’re having today,” he explained as we sat down at the table.

“Sounds great!” I replied, suddenly feeling hungry.

And not just for food. The moment we shared in his bedroom was still playing in my mind.

The fish really was delicious. And with the right wine, it tasted divine.

The sun was setting, and I could see deep orange and red colors through the kitchen window as we continued with our meal.

“Let’s take the wine upstairs, the sunset view is really worth the climb, I promise,” Nathan said.

I had no objections to going back to his bedroom.

And not just for the view.

I followed him up the stairs, eager to continue where we had left off. I wasn’t usually this bold. It had to have been the wine loosening my inhibitions.

  I wonder what’s for dessert…

The sun had set and the city of Denver was in full lights. I had held my breath throughout the sunset because it was out of this world. No wonder Nathan was so cool and calm in social situations and successfully running his business if he got the chance to go to sleep every evening seeing that kind of beauty.

We were in his room, sitting on the couch, sipping wine.

“So what do you say to my offer,” he asked, dragging me back to the topic of work.

The job he was offering was more than great and I wouldn’t have hesitated at all in my answer if it weren’t for the fact that I was so attracted to him. That might make things awkward in the workplace, to say the least. Still, the opportunity was too good to let it pass by.
